A new effort is underway to help Placer County make land use decisions while keeping wildfire safety in mind. During a community meeting in Auburn on Monday, residents and county officials discussed the new program and how it will work with the county’s Regional Forest Health Program. The county’s range of topography, from open wetlands to rolling hills and some of the most captivating mountain peaks in the state, is a natural wonder but also comes at a price.
“As the pace and scale from the disturbances from wildfire grows, how can we as a group increase our pace and scale of risk mitigation,” Vibrant Planet Director Joe Flannery said to FOX40.com.
Flannery and his team at Vibrant Planet have developed a digital platform called Land Tender that could serve as a crucial tool in decreasing the chance of destructive wildfires in Placer County. The Tahoe Fund has begun implementing Land Tender across the Tahoe Basin with a total coverage area of 1.5 million acres.
