Dr. Andreas (Andi) Gros

Andi joined Vibrant Planet after working for more than 10 years as a research scientist in Silicon Valley. Andi specializes in machine learning, computer vision, and data science. His background is in mathematics, computer science, complex systems, and ecology. Andi was a member of Meta’s Core-Data-Science Team and one of the first contributors to Meta’s Data-for-Good program. He led the work on Meta’s High-Resolution Settlement Layer (HRSL), which is a gridded population dataset for more than 190 countries. HRSL is used internationally for humanitarian purposes and infrastructure planning. Andi holds a Ph.D. in Theoretical Ecology and a Diplom (M.S.) in Complex Systems Analysis. He holds 4 patents and has (co-)authored 18 peer-reviewed publications. At Vibrant Planet he focuses on scaling and productionizing models used to understand forest vegetation and prevent wildfires.
